Children gathering in Spain

The Reality: Child Poverty in Spain

Despite its status as a major European economy, Spain harbors a silent structural crisis. According to the latest AROPE (At Risk of Poverty or Social Exclusion) indicator, Spain consistently ranks among the countries with the highest child poverty rates in the European Union. Economic growth has unfortunately bypassed the most vulnerable families, leaving millions of minors exposed.

Of children in Spain are at risk of poverty or social exclusion—over 2.1 million minors.

The Root of the Crisis

This crisis is fueled by a perfect storm of precarious employment, skyrocketing housing costs that consume over half of a vulnerable family's income, and an inadequate social protection system that fails to reach those who need it most. The result is an intergenerational cycle of inequality that compromises children's nutrition, mental health, and educational outcomes.

The Project: Miradas de Calatayud

Since moving to Spain, the landscape and people of Calatayud have profoundly inspired my photography. "Miradas de Calatayud: Arte por la Infancia" is a charity exhibition I am planning, designed to turn that artistic inspiration into tangible, structural help.

The concept is entirely transparent: I am donating my time, my portfolio, and the full rights to these images for this event. 100% of the net profits from the sale of the artwork will be donated directly to Save the Children Spain to fund their vital, on-the-ground programs combating child poverty and educational exclusion.

Call for Sponsors & Partners

To maximize our donation to Save the Children, we are actively seeking Spanish printing providers and local businesses to sponsor the production materials (printing, framing, exhibition logistics). If you represent a printing company, a local business, or the Calatayud City Council and wish to support this cause, let's talk.
